Redlands Lights Up Christmas This Friday—And Yes, We Know It's Early

The atmospheric river that soaked us while we were away, free trees for North Redlands, and why this weekend is packed with reasons to celebrate our community

Trivia Questionâť“

In Redlands, California, what famous historical figure was known to have escaped from jail in the city during his criminal career?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

Hi Redlands Family,

Liz and I just flew back from Boston, where we were bundling up against the cold, watching fall leaves dance across campus, handling some business, and cheering on our daughter as she played volleyball for MIT.

While we were away, that atmospheric river decided to give our beautiful city a proper soaking—2-4 inches in just a few days.

Coming home to see our tree-lined neighborhoods glistening after the rain, with citrus groves looking refreshed and neighbors already out lending hands with cleanup, reminded me exactly why Redlands is home.

We might have missed the storm, but we're grateful we didn't miss the community spirit that always follows.

This week is extra special because we're kicking off the holiday season in true Redlands fashion! Our downtown Christmas tree lighting is this Friday (yes, we're early birds here—we like to stretch out the joy), and Thanksgiving weekend is just around the corner.

So grab your calendar, your favorite cozy sweater, and let's dive into what's happening in our corner of the Inland Empire.

🌳 AROUND THE GROVES

A Big Upgrade for Southwest Redlands

Some great news for our neighbors in the southwest part of town: a brand new fire station is officially in the works. The City Council just gave the green light to build Fire Station 264 at Heritage Park, which is a huge step up from the temporary facility that's been serving the area for over 15 years.

With a $1.2 million investment to get the design phase rolling, this new station will mean faster emergency response times for a part of Redlands that has seen a lot of growth.

It's always good to see the city investing in the safety and future of our neighborhoods.

Free Trees to Green Up North Redlands

Want to add a little more green to your yard and help the community at the same time?

The Northside Green Share event is happening this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gonzales Community Center. They're giving away free shade trees to North Redlands residents to help expand our tree canopy and cool down our neighborhoods.

It's a fantastic initiative by a coalition of local groups, and besides the free trees, there will be sustainability workshops and other family-friendly activities. You can register for your free tree here.
