Ken Hubbs Award Winner Will McHargue Making Noise on East Coast |
Yucaipa's Scholar-Athlete Records First Career Solo Tackle in Coast Guard Victory |
Former Yucaipa High School standout Will McHargue is making his mark on the gridiron nearly 3,000 miles from home. The Ken Hubbs Award winner recorded his first career solo tackle last weekend as the United States Coast Guard Academy dominated Worcester Polytechnic Institute 49-21.
From Thunderbird to Bear McHargue, who earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors last May, has transitioned seamlessly from the Inland Empire prep scene to Division III college football. The 6-foot, 205-pound linebacker brings the same hustle that made him a first-team all-conference player and team captain at Yucaipa High.
"I hustle to the ball no matter where it is," McHargue said during his senior year, a philosophy clearly translating to the collegiate level.
Coast Guard Rolling Through Schedule The Bears are putting up video game numbers this season. Two weeks prior to the WPI matchup, Coast Guard torched Nichols College 92-60 in a historic offensive showcase. The game shattered multiple Division III records, including most combined touchdown passes with 14 between both teams.
Coast Guard's explosive offense has become appointment television for college football fans who appreciate old-school, high-scoring affairs reminiscent of backyard pickup games.
November Showcase at Fenway The season's marquee event awaits in November when Coast Guard faces Merchant Marine at iconic Fenway Park. The Secretaries Cup will mark the first time the Bears have played in the legendary ballpark, adding another chapter to McHargue's already impressive journey.
Character Continues to Shine McHargue's impact extends beyond statistics. Known for creating one of Yucaipa High's largest student Bible studies, he embodies the leadership qualities that earned him the Ken Hubbs Award recognition among 52 elite Inland Empire student-athletes.
His commitment to service through military academy life mirrors the values that made him a standout in the local community. From the San Bernardino Mountains to the Connecticut coastline, Will McHargue continues representing the Inland Empire with distinction.
The former Thunderbird's collegiate career is just beginning, but early returns suggest Yucaipa High produced another winner destined for bigger stages. |
