Trivia Question❓

In Redlands, California, the historic Redlands Bowl has been hosting free summer concerts since what year?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

The Town’s Buzzing… But Hardly Anyone’s Talking About This

From historic comebacks to coffee-fueled nights downtown, Redlands just raised the bar on what “local pride” feels like.

Alright, quick mea culpa, this newsletter was supposed to hit your inbox last night at 6 p.m. sharp.

Then our software decided to take a timeout. So here we are, coming at you a little later than planned (and yes, fully caffeinated).

But honestly? The timing fits. Because if you were anywhere near the University of Redlands this week, you felt it,  that electric charge after the Bulldogs pulled off one of the biggest volleyball upsets in school history.

As big volleyball fans—and proud parents of a Coast Guard VB player, Liz and I were over the moon watching Ainsley’s teammate and the Redlands crew fight their hearts out. Down 0–2, they clawed their way back, set by set, until that final point dropped and the gym absolutely erupted. Goosebumps.

It was one of those moments that reminds you why we love this town. Grit. Heart. Community. And a whole lot of pride packed into a tiny college gym.

And that energy? It’s everywhere right now. From Veterans Day celebrations to live music downtown, the whole city feels alive in that fall-in-Redlands kind of way.

So pour another cup, take a breath, and let’s dive into what’s happening around the groves this week.

🌳 AROUND THE GROVES

Fans at the University of Redlands witnessed a match for the ages Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs women's volleyball team stunned undefeated No. 2 La Verne, roaring back from a 2-0 deficit to secure a dramatic five-set victory.

La Verne arrived as the clear favorite, but Redlands refused to surrender, turning the tide with grit and belief.

This epic comeback has become the talk of campus, a testament to the power of relentless spirit in small college communities.

With every set, the Bulldogs battled harder, defying the odds and delivering one of this year's top Division III volleyball upsets.

The gym crackled with excitement as these determined young athletes proved that rankings mean little against passion, teamwork, and unwavering heart.

The Bulldogs’ performance not only secured a place in school history, but also inspired fans across Redlands.

🍊 GROVE STREET HEADLINES

We’re rounding the corner on 2025, and if you’re thinking “I’ll deal with taxes in April,” you’re already late to the game. The truth is, what you do right now can save you thousands next spring.

1. Fix Your Withholding
Big refund? That’s just an interest-free loan to the IRS. Owe money every year? Adjust your W-4 now and smooth out your cash flow before the holidays.

2. Max Out Retirement Contributions
You can stash $23,000 in your 401(k) ($30,500 if you’re 50+). Every dollar lowers your taxable income. That’s money you’re paying your future self instead of Uncle Sam.

3. Harvest Investment Losses
If your portfolio has some losers, sell strategically. You can offset gains and deduct up to $3,000 in losses from ordinary income. Don’t waste those losses—turn them into leverage.

4. Bunch Charitable Donations
Give smarter. Combine two years of donations into one to exceed the standard deduction. A donor-advised fund makes it easy to time your generosity.

5. Business Owners: Use Section 179
Buy that new equipment before December 31. Deduct up to $1,220,000 for 2025—but only if it’s in use by year-end.

Look, nobody wants to talk taxes during the holidays. But a couple of smart moves now? That’s peace of mind and more cash in your pocket later.

This isn't just an exhibit—it's an energy-filled evening celebration of music, art, and culture that brings our community together in the most vibrant way possible.

Picture this: live art demonstrations where you can watch talented regional artists create in real-time, musical performances filling the museum with festive sounds, local artisan shopping (perfect for unique holiday gifts!), and of course, delicious food. The whole evening is designed to honor the beautiful traditions of Día de los Muertos while celebrating the incredible artistic talent we have right here in the Inland Empire.

What makes this extra sweet? Museum admission is 50% off during the event—just $5 for adults, $4 for military/seniors, $3.50 for students, and $2.50 for kids 6-12. Museum members get in free! That's an incredible deal to experience world-class exhibits plus this special celebration. And since parking is free and the museum is fully accessible, there's no reason not to bring the whole family.

This is the kind of cultural event that makes Redlands such a rich place to live. It's not just about looking at art—it's about experiencing it, celebrating heritage, and connecting with our neighbors through creativity and tradition.

Insider tip: Arrive when doors open at 4 PM to have time to explore the museum exhibits before the evening festivities really get going.
