Redlands FC Stays Unbeaten on the Road, Plus Don't Tell Comedy Comes to Town

Touch a Truck returns to the University of Redlands, Larry Dierdorff's canvas work goes on display, and a scam alert you need to read.

Redlands Bowl drops its full 2026 season (Frozen, ELO, Yacht Rock, Navy Band, every night free), FC opens at home Saturday at 7, and a fifth-generation citrus grower just put Redlands on the world stage. It's a good week to live here.

From the Groves

Why This Matters

We are writing this from a coffee shop in downtown Seattle. The weather is crisp and windy, and FIFA fever is happening in the city.

The weather this weekend in Redlands will be in the 90s, quite different from the Northwest! Still hydrated this weekend.

First things first. Redlands FC went on the road Wednesday night against the Ventura County Fusion—one of the toughest clubs in USL2—and ground out a 0-0 draw to keep their unbeaten streak alive.

That's four games in a row without a loss. They're back home this weekend, and we've got the details below.

But before we get to the weekend, I need you to read the first story in the Grove Street Headlines today. It's a scam alert. I'm seeing too many people get caught by this stuff, and I want you to know exactly what to look for so it doesn't happen to you or your family.

This weekend is built for getting out of the house.

Saturday morning is the 12th Annual Touch A Truck event over at the University of Redlands.

If you've got kids, that's where you need to be. Saturday night, Don't Tell Comedy is running a secret show right here in Redlands.

The location stays hidden until the day of the show, but I've got the ticket link for you.

We've also got live music lined up from Thursday through Sunday, including Circle of Friends back at September's, and local legend Larry Dierdorff opening a new art show downtown.

Let's get into it.

🍊 GROVE STREET HEADLINES

Local families are increasingly falling victim to sophisticated online scams, with recent cases leaving residents out hundreds of thousands of dollars and facing severe tax consequences.

One mother lost her life savings to scammers.

Another retired grandfather was tricked into thinking his Social Security number was compromised and urged by fake federal agents to move money into gold, costing him over half a million dollars.

These attacks rely on pressure, secrecy, and fear, often demanding secrecy from the victim and urgency around moving money.

Even savvy residents are at risk.

One local nearly fell for a scheme claiming his Google account was hacked, but quick intervention from a loved one prevented loss.

The community is urged: Never handle financial emergencies from phone calls alone.

Always hang up, consult trusted family, and call institutions directly using official contact numbers.

🎨 ARTS & CULTURE

The Man Who Painted Redlands Moves to Canvas

If you've spent any time in Redlands, you've seen Larry Dierdorff's work. He's the guy behind nearly 20 murals across downtown and our local schools. He's the one who painted the walls at Mariposa Elementary back in the 80s when they cut the art budget, just so the kids would still have something creative to look at.

Now, he's bringing his work indoors. Starting June 13, the Redlands Art Association is hosting a featured exhibition of Dierdorff's canvas paintings. It's a completely different discipline for him—moving from 30-yard murals to detailed, up-close canvas work—but the storytelling is still there. He's painting classic cars, reflections, and even a piece inspired by his childhood with a Redlands orange crate mixed in.

Redlands FC Grinds Out a Draw on the Road

Redlands FC took a trip out to Ventura on Wednesday night to face the Ventura County Fusion, one of the premier clubs in USL2. They didn't come back with a win, but they didn't come back empty-handed either. A hard-fought 0-0 draw earned them a point on the road and extended their unbeaten streak to four games.

Goalkeeper Tony Flores made a massive save in the 40th minute, tipping a free kick just over the bar to keep things level. The defense held strong through a late Fusion push in the 80th minute to secure the shutout. They're back in Redlands this Saturday, June 13, for a home friendly before hitting the road again next week.

📣 WE'RE LOOKING FOR A SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

RedlandsNow is hiring (well — sort of). We're looking for a college student to help us launch and grow our social media presence.

If you love Redlands, live on Instagram and TikTok, and want real hands-on experience building a community-driven local media brand from the ground up, we want to talk to you.

What you'd do:

Help create, schedule, and post content across our social platforms. Capture short-form video around town. Build engagement with our growing readership. Bring fresh ideas to the table.

What you'd get:

This is an unpaid position — but it's a real one. You'll get hands-on experience launching a social media platform, a portfolio of published work, behind-the-scenes access to local news and events, professional mentorship, and a strong resume builder with a real reference at the end of it.

Who we're looking for:

A college student (preferred) who's reliable, creative, and excited about Redlands. Marketing, journalism, communications, or media majors are a natural fit — but if you've got the eye and the energy, the major doesn't matter.

Interested? Email info@redlandsnow.com with a quick note about yourself, your school, and a couple of links to social content you've created or accounts you've helped grow.

Help us tell the story of Redlands.

Take that scam alert seriously. Share it with your parents, your kids, and anyone else who might get caught off guard. It only takes one mistake to create a massive headache.

If you've got kids, I highly recommend getting out to the Touch A Truck event on Saturday morning.

The Rotary Club does a great job with it, and the kids love it.

Stay gritty, Redlands.
